How Children Learn Geography in a Montessori Classroom

The study of earth and its people, resources, climate, and physical features in an age-appropriate manner

Free the child’s potential and you will transform him into the world. – Dr. Maria Montessori

In a Montessori classroom, we take a hands-on approach to learning about the world around us. In a traditional sense, this is Geography. In a Montessori classroom with young children this happens in through exploration and discovery of the world around them.

Children learn about other cultures by researching, learning about traditions, experiences shared by those who’ve visited the countries, making traditional crafts, and cooking or baking specialties tied to the region. Each sense is engaged allowing the child to fully grasp the lessons and engage in the manner that’s best suited to them.

In our Montessori Geography lessons children learn about the solar system, directions, weather, animals, and more. The children also spend time outside, learning to care for our environment, growing planting seeds, watering flowers, observing the animals that visit our outdoor areas.

I Can’t Imagine a Better Place
A Yelp testimonial from one of our parents
“My kiddos are currently enrolled at KSMS and have been there over a year. I cannot imagine a better place for them at this time of their life for education and physical well-being. The teachers, helpers and directors are friendly and nurturing and know everyone by name. The hours work great for our work schedules. I only wish they went beyond pre-k!” – Mia G.
