How Children Learn Mathematics in a Montessori Classroom

Making math easier to understand through specialized teaching materials.

We teachers can only help the work going on, as servants wait upon a master. – Dr. Maria Montessori

In a Montessori classroom math is taught in a hands-on manner rather than paper to pencil only. Our children use counting beads, counting tubes, and other materials that make the concept of how numbers relate to each other easier to grasp for our youngsters.

You’ll find children working in small groups, counting out rows of beads, breaking them into sets of tens, hundreds, or thousands and adding them together. This hands-on approach allows the children to touch and feel the numbers and turning it into something concrete makes it easier for young minds to understand.

If children attend a Montessori elementary school they will use the same math materials through 6th grade. The foundation they receive in transition and primary will stay with them through their upper grades.

I Absolutely Love this School
A Yelp testimonial from one of our parents
“This is my daughter’s first year here and being as picky as I am, I can honestly say I have not found a better school for my 2 year-old! I absolutely LOVE this school, the staff, the teachers, and the environment they have created. I have nothing but good to say about KSMS! I highly recommend this facility!” – Jessica C.
